The device, known as The Rape-Axe, is a latex sheath embedded with shafts of sharp, inward-facing microscopic barbs that would be worn by a woman in her vagina like a tampon. If an attacker were to attempt vaginal rape, their penis would enter the latex sheath and be snagged by the barbs, causing th...

UK Riots - How the Drugs War Fits In

Saturday, 13 August 2011 03:13

Most of us have an opinion, and many of us look higher than simple knee-jerk reactionary comments. To discuss the current situation of the UK riots rationally , you of course have to interject with the disclaimer of; "I do not condone riots but" - I'm sure no one advocates the actions of the violent few, and that much is a given.

Society has had a fragmented democracy for many years, and it can be assumed that we now are seeing this dangerous malaise come to the fray in the spilling of engorged emotion. With any riot scenario, there are those that have simply gone along for the ride and have no other ambition that to collect a shiny bounty. We can all insert opinion, we can bullet point the failings and decay of the inner cities, but we must also look to the top for our answers. Society has a habit of leading by example, and this has been less than exemplary. Banks, MP's expenses and interests, lack of accountability in parliament, media corruption, the PCC, and questionable actions in the MET within the last few months. Allegations are rife - and subject to investigations - but it still sets a precedent for a certain brand of apathy in a respect based community.

The drug war has played a part for many years in perpetuating a divide. In his book; Drugs, Crime and Public Health, Professor Alex Stevens of the University of Kent made a detailed analysis of the Ministry of Justice's data, and despite no evidence that drugs have a stronghold over any race in particular, it is perhaps surprising to learn that you are 6 times more likely to be arrested for drug offences in the UK if you are black, and you're also 11 times more likely to be imprisoned. These findings show an alarming incongruence.

5 Live BBC Radio , Reports of Disability hate crime

Availability:
Sorry, this programme is not available to listen again. (why?)

Last broadcast on Sun, 3 Apr 2011, 21:00 on BBC Radio 5 live.

SynopsisGap year safety. A coroner has called on the Government to review the safety procedures of companies offering gap year adventure trips. It follows the death of a student on a conservation holiday in Fiji. We investigate how well the companies are implementing safety procedures.

Many police forces are still failing when it comes to investigating reports of disability hate crime, according to a number of leading charities. They say officers have not heeded the lessons of the tragic case of Fiona Pilkington who set fire to herself and her disabled daughter more than 3 years ago. The mother had been driven to despair by years of abuse targeted at the family.

5 Live Investigates talk to a woman with learning disabilities who's endured 20 years of abuse. She's been spat at, had chewing gum put in her hair, had kids get into her home and has been physically assaulted. The last time her mother reported it to the police she was told by an officer that it was naïve to think that her daughter would not be subjected to taunts.

And tackling uninsured drivers... Following last week's debate about new plans to tackle uninsured drivers, and concerns that new penalties wont be tough enough, the Roads Minister Mike Penning comes onto the show to defend the scheme.

Bilderberg 2011: The curtains are drawn

Charlie Skelton wakes to find a security fence blocking his view of the venue, and brings news of the Bilderbus

The Bilderberg 2011 security fence, or should that be 'a massive white fence of embarrassment'? Photograph: Charlie Skelton

Breaking news. There's been a bomb. Sorry, a "bomb". A "tubular device" has been "found" by the police, two people have been cuffed and whisked off, and the security is tightening fast. The bomb business has only kicked off in the last hour, but a photo of the arrest is winging its way down the mountain towards me. I'll post it up when it gets here.

So yes – seems that I spoke too soon about a chilled-out Swiss Bilderberg. The happy proximity of cameras and conference had already been broken, overnight, by a long white security fence, which blocked our view of the venue. No one seems to know who put it up, but the smart money says that it was hammered in at 3am by Jorma Ollila, the Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell, while Peter Voser, the CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, held the nails.

Now of course, when I describe what's gone up as a "security fence", what I actually mean is "privacy fence". It's a shower curtain, not a ring of steel. And of course, by "privacy" what I actually mean is "shame". It's a shame fence. A massive white fence of embarrassment. Privacy is what the delegates get when they close the door of their conference hall. Privacy is a Chatham House agreement not to discuss in public what was discussed at the various presentations and seminars of Bilderberg.

But this isn't privacy. It's hiding. It's a child hiding behind the curtains in case the monsters see it, and I find it weirdly infantile. Oddly unconfident. Grown-ups, happy in what they're doing, don't slide down in their car seats and slip in through side doors. You've got the world's most powerful people sneaking around like naughty kiddies. Naughty kiddies with secret service spotters on their hotel roof, and armed men on motorbikes flanking their limousines.

This is the bit about Bilderberg that I really don't get. It's an old chestnut, but let's just take another bite at it. Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that Bilderberg benefits us all. The citizens of the world are made safer, or happier, or healthier, or better off as a result of this meeting. Let's just say that the head of Deutsche Bank spends four days with the head of BP in order to improve our lives.

Let's suppose, shall we, that the amiable hosts – David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, and the Queen of the Netherlands – have the interests of the general public written in big red letters at the top of their conference agenda.

Suppose all that. Then why the fence? Why do delegates fling themselves across the back seats of their limousines rather than be seen attending this helpful gathering? Why the blacked-out windows and the newspapers held in front of their faces? And why the big white fence? I don't get it.

Why isn't Josef Ackermann, the CEO of Deutsche Bank, waving benignly to the crowds? Why aren't the excited participants pausing at the hotel gates to speak to the invited press? "Yes, thank you, we're hoping to solve Europe's financial crisis this year – so finger's crossed!" Why are German plane clothes policemen following members of the public around Swiss streets...? Sorry – different question. Important, but different.

But listen, I know what you're wondering. You're wondering: whatever happened to the Bilderbus? Did it ever arrive? TELL US ABOUT THE BILDERBUS!

OK, OK, calm down – give me a moment to collect my thoughts.

Ah yes, the Bilderbus ...

The noble 15-seater Bilderbus rolled into a St Moritz garage forecourt at just gone midnight. Right around when Peter Voser was rummaging around the hotel shed for some nails (see above). Four bald tyres squelched to a halt on the clean Swiss tarmac. A last shudder of the engine, a dimming of the lights, and for a moment – silence.

Then open slid the minibus door and a vast sigh of relief escaped into the night, a sigh so deep and so long that it blew birds from their nests, twanged the wires of the cable car, and echoed up, up, up into the mountains, where it is still living in a cave somewhere – cold, hungry, but content that it never has to set foot in that minibus ever again.

The drizzly Swiss forecourt filled with stretching travellers. Hips were clicked back into their sockets and glances were exchanged. Glances rich in pain. "Picaresque" is how one hollow-eyed soul described the journey. "Kafkaesque" hissed another through drawn lips. "We had trouble at customs," muttered a third. "And hit a bollard". "And the brakes don't work". "We haven't eaten". "We haven't slept". "I'm not even sure he's got a license."

But they made it. As steam rose from the bus's reeking wheels, these brave souls could bask in the knowledge that the human spirit will never, ever – "Sorry to interrupt, but could you show us to the campsite? We really need to sleep". OK, sorry. We'll talk tomorrow.

Tomorrow (today) has been spent at a Swiss garage getting the brakes fixed. If you're in the market for a visual metaphor that encapsulates the forces that are weighed against each other at Bilderberg – the secrecy of wealth and power versus the concern and curiosity of the powerless – then here it is:
The Bilderbus having its steaming brake pads checked in a Swiss garage
Changing the brake pads on a vehicle that can barely shudder itself above 50 mph might seem like fitting wings to a cactus, but better to be safe than Swiss cheese. Most of what happened on the bus will be taken to the grave by the survivors. A veil of privacy has been drawn over the horrors. Once a year, they will meet in a mountain resort to discuss, in a darkened room, how they are recovering. They will erect a tall white nylon fence around the venue, lest anyone catch a glimpse of the pain in the eyes. A glimpse like that? It could kill you.

Here's the list of attendees:
http://www.infowars.com/bilderberg-2011-full-official-attendee-list/
A cast with many of the usual suspects, such as Peter Mandelsohn and George Osborne - presumably representing the interests of their buddy, Nathan Rothschild.
Needless to say, Rockefeller and Kissinger are also there. After all, they are part of the furniture...

OK here is my twopeneth worth of conspiry: The Swiss are coming to the end of a huge double tunnel building excercise that is an astonishing 36 miles long and 6 miles under the alps that they say is to speed up traffic between north Europe and the southern states, fair enough, on the face of it sounds like a good idea, but why the need to build atomic bomb proof doors at each end of this huge tunnel?

Secondly, David Rockefellar, who donated the land that the UN building stands on in NY. is reported as having urged the Clintons in their presidency to make the Great Disclosure?
Hillary in particular was apparently anxious that this would happen, but others disuaded Bill much to Hillary's annoyance and here we are, two presidents later and Hilary and David Rockefellar sitting side by side with all the worlds controllers at a top secret meeting that has been going on anually since the early 50's when it is claimed that the first human to alien contact was made.

Also why out here in the far east are we being bombarded daily, weekly and monthly about the coming alien invasion with clips of Obama stating " we are at war" (with aliens) amongst others, and the declaration that there is a coming war as western governments seem to have decided to reject any friendly contact and instead treat them as intergalatic enemies.

I'm only the messnger, but this and other related mind boggling stories and lectures by now retired elderly former cold war warrior types and ex-senior intelligence officers of high rank are also putting out this message.
Look on YouTube for Obama and Disclosure and other related lectures, particularly on UFO TV. and join up the dots.

Funny that old David Aaronovitch is all over this like a rash. The cup of tea reference is his and he seems to be the main denier of any and all 'conspiracies'. In fact he is the first to jump on any logical questiioning of the behaviour of of our greaters and betters and label it a 'conspiracy'. He was on Newsnight last night shaming Paxman by pouring his own more toxic brand of lofty disdainful scorn on the doctors who had the nerve to question the cover-up of David Kelly's death. In fact these days I don't believe a conspiracy is worth conspiring over unless the former Guardian columnist has sprayed it with his marker like a skunk on heat. Boy, did he take the Kings shilling back in the old Iraq War days.

@The GuGuKing.

Thank you for that Guest List. The banks and the financial institutions seem even more heavily represented than usual this year. Hold on to your wallets!

If the Devil could cast his net....eh?

Looks like Rory Stewart could be a man to watch. The British Obama to be ? Obama was a Bilderberger attendee and so are/were several of his closest appointees.Joe Biden, also a Bilderberger, was selected to run as Vice Pres. by James A Johnson...er....also a Bilderberger.

With regard to the usual presence of someone from The Economist"..... this is a publication that is heavily influenced, if not actually controlled by, the Rothschild family.
Probably just a coincidence. Nothing to see here.

@ edegales - for what it's worth

Some people have tried to take them on but they end of being shot usually if they are any kind of serious threat. Others who have aggravated them usually end up without a Job anymore, being discredited or fall victim to some kind of entrapment.

That's one of the reasons many people in the Media dare not push their luck, they get shunned, refused interviews, sacked and struggle to find any decent work ever again. As already mentioned, a Massive amount of Media is controlled and owned by them anyway.

The Taliban are trying in their own Military Way at the moment so you could join them.

There are of course many things individuals can do without fear of being shot. They can cut up their Credit Cards and that hurts them. They can pay off debt and never ever borrow again. That hurts them. Sell all Shares. Take money out of Pension Schemes, they're all useless anyway. Take money out of Savings Accounts, they're useless anyway, inflation usually gets manipulated to ensure you actually lose money held in savings accounts anyway. It's getting real hard lately but try to not buy their products at all. Use a building society account instead of Bank Accounts.

All these are simple and effective. If done en mass worldwide, such simple action could really damage their status.

Then of course there are the major killer moves which is their worst nightmare.

We as slaves worldwide - and we are all just slaves to them - organize, unite and move as one unit to completely take over all positions of power and be free at last. Preferably ensuring that our brothers and sisters, fathers and sons, currently employed in the Police or Military, step aside and then let the civilians take the Ruling Elite head on in a mass global demonstration, preferably completely peacefully.

No one can be sure how many of them they are but at most, the main players amount to a few thousand.

The slaves of course add up to around 7 Billion and at that point, there is no contest.

This action would need to unified and sustained, regardless of colour, race or religion. The worlds civilians need to move as one.

These people are clever, example - they financially rape Greece and deal with that social riot, then move on to another Nation and deal with that social riot. The Greeks only fight for the Greeks and the Irish only fight for the Irish. One by one, each nation is brought to it's knees. Just like nationally the Teachers only go on strike if Teachers wages are being cut. Doctors would only strike if their wages are to be cut.

That's how they divide and rule and 7 Billion people let them do it.

It's actually insane that 7 Billion People allow themselves to be controlled by so few. It's much easier for us to control them and yet we do not.

Muslims in the Middle East are taught We are their enemy and We are taught, they are the enemy, both statements are complete lies.

We all share a common enemy and it's high time we all realized that. The Private Banking system is pure evil and evil knows no bounds.

People like David Cameron and Tony Blair have a complete and utter contempt for all the citizens of the Northern Hemisphere, just as they have that same contempt for citizens in the Southern Hemisphere.

Tony Blair for example ensured that the UK spent Billions in the Middle East Wars, leaving the Nation in debt. Why ? because he can then go and work for JP Morgan Chase and earn Millions.

Why would JP Morgan Chase employ Tony Blair ? Possibly because the UK would have had to borrow the money to go to War from JP Morgan Chase, just as France did.

Thus JP Morgan earn from the Profits on the Bonds plus Interest and then Tony Blair spends the money borrowed from JP Morgan to buy Arms.

Those Arms are manufactured by Companies owned by JP Morgan and their Bankster Friends.

So the money loaned by JP Morgan Chase gets given back to JP Morgan Chase.

Furthermore, JP Morgan Chase also control the stocks and shares in those Arms Dealers and once again, they make even more money on the Stock Market.

That revolving door is one perpetual cycle and it's the same groups of people who run everything, making money out of everything.

Meanwhile, 17 year old kids from the U.S and the U.K and Europe are sent to the Middle East to kill complete strangers on behalf of the Banksters.

The Arms are then dropped all over the Region and Innocent people die in the Hills and the Deserts until everything is destroyed and the cycle begins again.

The slaves can kill each other all millennium long for all they care, just as long as the Banksters make a profit and are left alone to hang out in Switzerland Hotels counting their money and dreaming up new Wars to wage . . . next on the list Iran and Pakistan probably . . .

Baffling that the snipers on the roof don't unleash fury on the vip's? The people with access to the clown parade, ie limo drivers, bodyguards, cooks, maids, butt wipers etc. could easily rid the world of the likes of demon Kissenger and Rothschilds, Rockefeller and the queens of wonderland.
Why is it always regular citizens that must arise to handle these delicate situations and risk death and/or imprisonment?
So is Jacob Rothschild the highest tier shot caller on the planet, or are there numbskulls with even more clout?

No more beating around the proverbial bush...who are the ten top dogs that need to be neutered. The Bilderberg list looks frankly like the list of go-fers, while the real masters are still in the shadows.

Very boringly British. Say what it is: Mass Murderers that killed the global economy get together again, the rumored devil worshiping and proven via pictures taken of the gatherings of those whom decided to destroy Iraq, competition must die. Die, die, die, world! And out-out damn spots! THE Beatrix, Rockefeller, Kissinger hydra-headed tiara wearing monsters, not them they are in Britain, monsters killing that wear tiaras. Diana told the truth and Goya etched Frankenstine to warn us already. Murderers are everywhere and the rippers? Street clothed plain wearing thugs from Germany, hey getta, getta, getta JOB, and not the head kind either. Dumb wearing dumber in whatever can get the body on in life, these days it is a matter of time for the organic forms to wither and get the earth cleansed of the whole energy, stupid.

Some seem to take this Bilderberg Group as a joke, but this group of 125 of the wealthest industralists in the world, meet often & secretly. Until recently.
And it is the likes of Alex Jones TV chatshow host in America, and other people working in media & other professionals who have worked for many years getting close to these people, covertly and otherwise.

It is basically this group that make policy, world policy. Our parliament 'enacte' this out and legislate in the House etc; the President/s of the USA are mere pupets, acting out the policy passed down to them. The 'Trilateral Group' overseer that this happens. J.F Kennedy was the last true president.

Other heads of state do likewise. Or have I got this all wrong? If so please research The Bilderberg Group, The Trilateral Group, look into the Federal Reserve Bank, a private bank, no legislation to bind it. Has never had an Audit in its 90+ years of existence.
Then of course there is the Bohemiam Grove Club, they know how to party. And of course our more common British type secret society, The Masons.

Seeing as Mr. Osborne Chancellor of the Exchequer attended in this capacity we the public will surely be hearing all about this meeting, as Democracy dictates.

M25 Artificial Cannabis Caper Exposed.

M25 Artificial Cannabis Caper Exposed

Back in 2010 the newspapers were full of a new and unusual cannabis caper which was carrying on around stretch's of the M25 motorway north of London.

Police had been called by a farmer who was growing industrial hemp. According to the farmer cars were pulling up to his crops, the occupants would then jump out and cut down as much of the cultivated hemp plants as possible, and then make off before 'the rozzers' arrived.

The farmer claimed to have lost hundreds of kilo's of plant matter which was worthless unless you wanted to make hemp yarn, or hemp based cosmetics.

Local police were at a loss to why people would want to steal something which whilst it may look like cannabis, thats where the similarities end.

A police officer who was called to the scene explained "People think they can get high on hemp".

"It looks like cannabis, it even smells like cannabis, but without the psycho active THC crystals which gather on the female cannabis plant, (which the industrial hemp plant has none of), industrial hemp is absolutely useless as a recreational drug!?

So why would people go to such length's to steal it?

The answer was mentioned in the text above. Industrial hemp looks, smells and feels just like the humble cannabis plant. The only bit missing is the bit that gets you stoned.

Enter JWH-018

JW Huffman is an organic chemist from the United States. In the last decade or two scientists like he have been able to manufacture synthetic cannabinoids. That is, the bit of the cannabis plant which brings with it the high, as well as all the medical benefits.

Now THC as we know it consists of a soup consisting of over 400 different substances, and differs markedly from plant to plant let alone from species to species. So try as they may, the pharmaceutical industry has been unable to synthesize whole-plant THC. But they can recreate little bits of it. One of the most popular little bits is called JWH-018, (named after its creator Dr JW Huffman of Clemson University).

Jwh-018 was recently 'outed' as being the active component in Artificial cannabis products marketed under the brand names of Spice and K2, as well as a great many others.

These synthetic marijuana products are said to mimic the effects of cannabis whilst at the same time being upwards of 10x more potent than regular smoked cannabis.

A lab in Germany revealed JWH-018 was the secret ingredient in Spice type products and almost overnight a legend was born.

Clever boffin types were using solvent evaporation technique's to infuse their chosen vegetable matter with man made cannabinoid JWH-018, creating in the process a synthetic version of cannabis.

The problem was of course, finding something which would burn readily when dried whilst at the same time mimicking the taste and smell of cannabis.

Then, a gang of drug dealers happened upon a field of industrial hemp. A field full of 12 foot cannabis plants. Can you imagine?

It didn't take long to figure out how well the solvent extraction method would work on the dried hemp, and soon after wards North London and the rest of the UK was flooded with an artificial form of cannabis which was being grown for the gangsters by a local farmer, albeit unwittingly.

Any that was intercepted would be destroyed as being regular cannabis, and no one was any the wiser. Not the Police, nor the cannabis buying public. Until now!

Good home-grown cannabis should always come with a coating of crystals.

If the cannabis you are buying doesn't have a healthy coating of what looks like sugar then chances are you're smoking something which came not from a natural plant, but out of a Chinese or American laboratory.

You have been warned.

DEMOCRACY?

DEMOCRACY?

Seemly, it is a belief that we are born into a democratic society. That we are born into a privileged world for having the right to vote is impressed upon some of us. Our fathers and grandfathers fought a war for our freedom, and they won that war. Some may say that we are LUCKY; we could be living under some dictatorship.
Then there are a growing number of us citizens that now believe that we live under a disguised
         dictatorship.

Real Democracy is when everyone is involved in the decision making process.

Parliament began as a body that represented feudal nobles by feudal nobles, this evolved into a parliament, which represented land-owning and agricultural interests more generally. The great Reform Act of 1832 then extended this to wealthy industrialist’s and property owners. The vote was eventually given to every adult over 18 years but by that time the process of voting was completely rigged.

[Look at 'EnglishCivilWar' by Diane Purkiss; see exactly where and what parliament was and how it was set-up].

All the main parties support and cling to the present system. If any party elected to office, and then start to try & change the system at its heart, they would last as long as it took the ‘real-policy-makers’ to get tanks and troops onto the streets.

So who are the real-policy-makers? The real policy makers are in fact 125 of the world’s wealthiest and therefore powerful industrialist’s, royalty, the mason’s and various ‘roundtables’ and of course the powerful Bilderberg Group. The Bilderberg Group seems to come out as the most senior and powerful of such secret groups. These people own their own Banks, worldwide corporations and the Media. In fact, between them they own the world, everything we buy or need each and every day as a necessity is owned by these people.

The Bilderberg group meets in secret; there are no paper documents, no minutes of meetings. They are totally unaccountable. These people have set up this charade to give us the _illusion_ of freedom so that they can continue to exploit us.

They make sure that everyone involved in the political arena feels their influence.

Sure a few radicals have made it to prominent positions but they are soon forced out of office. Minor changes can be made but ultimately this system is for the ruling classes and is designed to enslave us while protecting the wealthy. Look closely at our system of governance and you will realise that its geared entirely towards them and the accumulation of capital.

The first past the post system is an absurd way of judging who should govern us. And who says who needs to be governed anyway?

When you vote you are giving away your power in saying that you need someone else to make decisions for you. But you don’t, we can and do govern ourselves with the decisions we make every day. The workings of government are only there to protect capitalist’s interests putting profits before the interest of the people. We are brainwashed into thinking that politicians are working for us, when they are in fact just the puppets the corporations. Voting changes nothing, in fact it only serves to legitimise their corrupt system.

Politicians must really look down on the general public to want to rule over them. What do they think we will do without them dictating to us?

And if this system is fair then why do political parties dominate it? Why should my representative be affiliated to a party?

This makes no sense to me, but it does if you consider that they are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. All their petty squabbling is designed to turn us off politics, to make us look the other way while they get on passing draconian laws. For us there are football matches that have increased the amount of games played. This undoubtedly takes the spirit and rational thinking at a time when folk are not working, exactly how the oligarch's like it. All three main parties have the same agenda and they are subordinate to one person, the Queen.*
Many people believe that the Queen has no power anymore. I think this is bollocks. If one becomes a member of parliament you have to swear allegiance to the Queen of England, as do the military, police, civil-servants etc.; none of the fore mentioned bodies swear allegiance to the people.

This basically means she is in charge and that we have been conned into thinking she is just our figure head and has no say in the working of parliament.

When push comes to shove it will be her troops on the streets and her politicians will be directing them. She is also the richest woman in the world and as we all know, money talks in capitalist society. She has her fingers in many pies, shares in all the richest corporations and huge tracts of land all over the world. So you can see the Queen benefits hugely from capitalism and if all politicians and military personnel throughout the commonwealth are subordinate to her, then we are not going to get rid of this system and gain our freedom through her majesties government.

The Queens cousin, The Duke of Kent, is the highest ranking freemason and all the Royals are basically above the law. They do what the fuck they want.

We need to wake up to this fact and start challenging this power structure.

This cannot be achieved through our present ‘parliamentary-form-of-democracy’.

The Freemasons and the Royals have the real power in this country as well as abroad, it’s interesting to know that all the forty three Presidents of the U.S.A have direct genetic links to the European Royal families, or family, as they are all related to each other. Obviously we need to live together on this planet and so we do need some form of decision making.

In fact we should all be involved in decisions that affect our lives-* this is Democracy.

This article was written to question our beliefs on democracy. Is it really worth legitimising by putting an X by the name of someone you don’t know, who isn’t going to do anything for you the constituent, even if she or he wanted?

The system is dominated solely by those politicians who once elected will tell you something that you know to be untrue.
                                                       Bring Back Democracy !

This article is thanks to 'fuffydave' di DOODA, of ‘the propaganja machine’. The article entitled ‘Democracy is a Sham’ was printed in the London & Global Underground Party (etc) Magazine called Shangri-la-la.( I picked this magazine up in Amsterdam, Holland, Nov; 2001)

NB.  New submissions that were not in the first articale by is the addition of
'The Bilderberg Group' and the piece bellow re:* Rockafella, The Scipps Bank                             Otherwise, the above text is the work of  fuffydave di Dooda.

* Though it is stated that the Queen is held as a all powerful person. It has been stated that there are four people who hold real power. These four are accountable to the Lord Mayor of London ( and this is not Boris Johnson), but each of the four men are representatives of the four major banks in Londons square mile of wealth. Each of the four serves a particular bank, of these are the Rockerfella Bank, The Scripps Bank, John Morgan Bank & one other the name evades me at the moment. These are the mosdt powerful men in the country.

Cannabis Compound 'could halt breast cancer' Last Updated at 11:28 Nov; 2007

Cannabis compound 'could halt breast cancer'Last updated at 11:28 20 November 2007

Comments (0) Add to My Stories A compound found in the cannabis plant has halted the spread of secondary cancer in lab tests

A chemical found in cannabis may stop breast cancer spreading through the body say scientists.

Researchers are hopeful that a compound found in cannabis called cannabidiol (CBD) could be a non-toxic alternative to chemotherapy. Unlike cannabis, CBD doesn't give users a 'high' and it is not illegal.

CBD works by blocking the activity of a gene called Id-1 which is believed to be responsible for the aggressive spread of cancer cells away from the original tumour site creating what are known as 'secondaries'.

Work has already shown CBD can block aggressive human brain cancers. The new research found CBD had a similar effect on breast cancer cells in the lab.

Lead researcher Dr Sean McAllister of The California Pacific Medical Centre Research Institute team said: "Right now we have a limited range of options in treating aggressive forms of cancer.

"Those treatments, such as chemotherapy, can be effective but they can also be extremely toxic and difficult for patients.

"This compound offers the hope of a non-toxic therapy that could achieve the same results without any of the painful side effects."

Doctors stress that smoking cannabis is unlikely to effective as sufficient quantities of CBD are not found in the leaf. They have to be extracted and are then concentrated to make a dose strong enough to kill cancer cells.

Dr Joanna Owens of Cancer Research UK said: "This research is at a very early stage. The findings will need to be followed up with clinical trials in humans to see if the CBD is safe, and whether the beneficial effects can be replicated.

"Several cancer drugs based on plant chemicals are already used widely, such as vincristine - which is derived from a type of flower called Madagascar Periwinkle and is used to treat breast and lung cancer. It will be interesting to see whether CBD will join them."

Today was one of my normal 3-weekly visits to the Marsden for herceptin & pamidronate, with a difference . For those of you that don't know me - my lot is to have extensive bone mets which I have had for 7 years now. Over the past year pain has been difficult to control and as well as taking opioid drugs I have also had a spinal nerve block. This is now wearing off so I thought before trying another nerve block it may be worth giving this trial a go. It is specifically for those who have been on oromorph or oxycodone and who are not getting the control they need on these drugs and are not happy to increase that dosage

I had learned of it from a leaflet I picked up at the Marsden. I phoned the Trial Nurse and arranged to talk to her at my next Pain Clinic appointment. She gave me the paperwork to take home and read over the weekend, and phoned me on the Monday to ask if I wanted to go ahead.

Having said yes she arranged to meet up with me in the Day Unit today. I think I even got a bed today on the strength of that! I was able to go through the preliminaries and along with usual bloods she had her tube at the ready too - I gather they will be checking I havent had any cannabis recently LOL, and kidney function among other things. Next the pee pot appeared so I went and filled it for her. Then a full ECG and check by a Doctor of my mouth, chest and tum. She then took full medical history which she will check against computer records and re-confirm that with me and a list of all the meds I was currently on. Now I have to phone a freephone toll no. every night to report on a scale of 0-10, my average pain over 24hrs, my worst pain over 24hrs, quality of sleep (no probs there ) and how many breakthrough doses of drugs I have taken.

The next step is that someone is monitoring this information and when they have what they want (could take from 5-14 days) I will go on to the next stage.

The trial is a double blind and I have a 1 in 4 chance of a placebo. The other 3 parts are groups on different doses of the drug. The drug is called Sativex and comes in the form of a mouth spray, but to you and me simple folk the word is cannabis!!! If you want the technical stuff it contains the ingredients tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). It will last 9 weeks and I can opt out at any point if I am not happy. I do not have to give any reason for doing this.

I was quite surprised to find I was the first one on the trial. I read that the study will take place at up to 130 centres across the world incl. UK. Approx 336 people will take part. That sounds like very few in each centre if that is how it works. It has already been approved for prescription use in Canada for MS and for the relief of pain in people with advanced cancer - oh the info goes on and on so I wont totally bore you. Why am I doing it? Maybe I am a junkie - I like my lollipops (don't ask). Maybe I am trying to find what I missed in the 60s. Maybe it is because I would like to be relieved of this ***** pain.

Watch this space.

Cannabis and Pain Management

Wellness

With Every Breath We Take

Marijuana and Pain Management

By: Bill McCarberg, M.D.

Millions of people in the United States suffer from chronic pain, and much of that suffering cannot be relieved adequately by existing treatments. Patients are in desperate need of new pain management approaches. Cannabinoid medicines appear very promising, although the subject often is obscured by controversy, prejudice, and confusion in part because cannabinoids have some relation to the cannabis plant – also known by the slang term marijuana.

What scientific reasons do doctors have to think that cannabinoids actually work? Do they provide genuine symptom improvement, or do patients become intoxicated and merely think that their symptoms are reduced?

Basic research conducted over the past 20 years provides us with many answers. In the early 1990s, researchers identified the cannabinoid receptor system. This system is found in some of the most primitive animal forms on earth – it is also the most widespread receptor system in the human body.

The cannabinoid receptor system has two types of receptors:

CB1 receptors are found primarily in the brain, spinal cord, and periphery.

CB2 receptors are on the immune tissues.

Specific molecules (called endocannabinoids) are produced by the body that interact with these CB1 and CB2 receptors, much like endorphins interact with the body's opioid receptor system. These findings initiated a new era of scientific interest and research in cannabinoids.

Numerous studies have now established that cannabinoids help lessen pain and affect a wide range of symptoms and bodily functions. Such research has also demonstrated that cannabinoids may work together with opioids to enhance their effectiveness and reduce tolerance.

This body of research has allowed cannabinoids to be informally classified into three types:

endocannabinoids (produced by the body)

phytocannabinoids (produced by the cannabis plant)

synthetic cannabinoids (produced in the laboratory)

Each type is being studied aggressively, but because endocannabinoids are quickly metabolized and probably cannot be patented, they have not yet been researched in humans.

What progress is being made toward developing cannabinoids as prescription pain relievers? Some cannabinoids are unstable and many are insoluble in water, which makes them difficult to research and turn into modern medicines. Patients react very differently to cannabinoids. Data from recent clinical trials are encouraging, but somewhat mixed. Looking closely at the results suggests that composition and delivery route (i.e., how a medicine is administered) are extremely important to the viability of cannabinoid medicines.

The Delivery Route

When taken orally, cannabinoids are not very well absorbed and often have unpredictable effects. Patients often become sedated or have intoxication-like symptoms when tetrahydrocannabinol (THC – the primary psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis) is metabolized by the liver. A small number of studies with Marinol (synthetic THC in sesame oil in a gelatin capsule) and Cesamet (synthetic THC analogue) have shown some effectiveness in pain relief, but optimal doses that relieve pain often cannot be achieved because of unpleasant psychologic side effects.

Inhaling cannabinoids, especially THC, also may cause problems for many patients. Blood levels rise suddenly and then drop off sharply. This rapid on-off effect may produce significant intoxication, particularly in patients who are new to cannabinoids. This may pose the risk of abuse potential. Smoking cannabis produces this effect, which is the very reason that recreational users prefer the inhaled route. Patients, however, generally wish to avoid psychologic effects, and it is unclear how difficult it might be to find a dosing pattern that enables them to have pain control without side effects.

A new product, called Sativex, was approved by Health Canada in June 2005 for marketing as an adjunctive medicine for central neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis. Adjunctive therapy means taking two or more medications to help control pain.

Sativex has a different delivery system – an oromucosal/sublingual spray absorbed by the lining of the mouth – that, according to the manufacturer, generally allows patients to gradually work up to a stable dose at which they obtain therapeutic pain relief without unwanted psychologic effects.

In the United States, Sativex is being studied in large randomized trials in cancer pain that has not been adequately relieved by opioids. Three early and six pivotal controlled studies in the United Kingdom demonstrated positive results treating chronic pain of various origins including neurologic pain, various symptoms of multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer pain. Initial results show improvement in pain for more than one year despite lack of effectiveness of the opioids. Common adverse effects of Savitex have included complaints of bad taste, stinging, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea or fatigue.

Additional research also may uncover other ways of avoiding the problems associated with oral or inhaled delivery. Ajulemic acid, a synthetic cannabinoid, binds to both the CB1 and CB2 receptors, and has shown benefit in a small neuropathic pain trial. It may have reduced psychologic effects and is being studied for the treatment of interstitial cystitis.

The Interplay of Cannabinoids

The use of herbal cannabis – usually smoked – has received considerable media attention since California and Arizona passed "medical marijuana" initiatives in 1996. Despite numerous anecdotal reports of effectiveness, very few controlled studies have been published in the pain area. Little is known about the number of patients who actually experience some degree of benefit or side effects.

Furthermore, herbal cannabis is neither standardized nor monitored for quality. The cannabinoid content can vary a great deal, and cannabis sold at dispensaries may be contaminated with pesticides or mold. Dosing is uncertain, depending on the preparation or method of use. So-called "vaporizers" do not eliminate all the contaminants. Without clinical trial data and an assurance of product quality, physicians lack the information necessary to assist patients in making informed therapeutic decisions. Both the FDA and Institute of Medicine have stated that there is no future for herbal cannabis as a prescription medicine.

Nevertheless, there may be some truth to the idea that there is pain relief potential in phytocannabinoids (plant-based cannabinoids) and that such potential may be affected by the interaction of THC with other botanical components, particularly with other cannabinoids. Modern strains of cannabis have been bred to maximize the THC at the expense of all other cannabinoids, most of which do not have psychologic effects. Some of those cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol (CBD), have been demonstrated to have important therapeutic value, particularly on pain and inflammation.

Concluding Thoughts

The possibilities for cannabinoid medicines are very promising, and much exciting research is proceeding at a rapid pace. As new FDA-approved cannabinoid products become available, physicians and patients will have a solid scientific foundation from which to assess their appropriateness. Hopefully, robust scientific data will soon allow cannabinoids to take their place – along with opiates and other pain relievers – in the modern medical supply for treating chronic pain.

History of Hallmarking

This History of Hallmarking article is provided by the Birmingham Assay Office.

The history of hallmarking dates back over 700 years to a statue instituted by Edward I. Its purpose then was the same as it is today – To protect the public against fraud and the trader from unfair competition. It is, in fact the earliest form of consumer protection.

Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium are always used as an alloy in the manufacturer of precious metal jewellery, watches and silverware. The precious metal is mixed with other elements to give it the properties, such as flexibility and durability to produce a desirable article.

Even the most experienced jeweller or chemist cannot tell, just by looking at it, how much metal there is in the alloy or whether a thick plating of precious metal is masking a base metal core. This offers the unscrupulous a huge opportunity for fraud and there is a need to protect the public and honest suppliers.

Therefore all items, over the minimum specified weight, being sold as gold, silver, platinum or Palladium in the UK must be hallmarked to confirm that they meet the legal standards of the Hallmarking Act, 1973.

Hallmarking must be carried out by a UK Assay Office or an Assay Office belonging to the International Convention.

The Birmingham Assay Office was founded in 1773. Over the past 230 years it has built an outstanding worldwide reputation based on its established expertise and its total integrity and independence.

The Birmingham Assay Office, having embraced the latest technological developments, is now the largest assay office in the world and the leading UK provider of a range of services to the UK jewellery industry.

KATHMANDU, March 2, 2011 (AFP) - Police in Nepal on Wednesday cracked down on the sale of cannabis at a major religious festival where the drug is smoked legally by thousands of long-haired holy men to honour a Hindu god, an official said.

Marijuana is illegal in Nepal, but under an ancient legal loophole authorities allow holy men -- known as sadhus -- to smoke it during a night of often wild celebrations in honour of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction.

Thousands of pilgrims travel to the sprawling Pashupatinath temple complex in Kathmandu every year from all over Nepal and India to mark the occasion, which is known as Shivaratri.

At one time the government even used to provide marijuana for the occasion, but authorities said they decided to enforce a ban on holy men selling the drug because of complaints they were dealing to local people.

“The holy men are free to use the drugs for themselves. But they can't sell it to others,” said Narottam Vaidhya of the Pashupati Area Development Trust, which looks after the temple complex.

“Not all the sadhus are holy men and some come with bad intentions. Our aim is to prevent people from posing as holy men in order to break the law,” he told AFP.

Vaidhya said armed police, some of them in plain clothes, had been deployed to the area to look out for anyone breaking the law ahead of Wednesday's celebrations.

“As of today, we have arrested seven sadhus for selling drugs,” he added.

Sadhus, who renounce all worldly possessions and usually live in caves or temples, have been coming to Kathmandu for hundreds of years to celebrate the festival.

They mark it by smoking cannabis because Hindu mythology suggests Shiva himself enjoyed the drug.

Shivaratri is a public holiday in India and Nepal, where all government offices and schools are shut for the day.

Huge camps are set up to accommodate the visiting sadhus, many of whom arrive weeks ahead of the celebrations.
